Major Subordinate Commands

The Alabama National Guard is composed of 13 principle Major Subordinate Commands (MSCs): 10 MSCs make up the Alabama Army National Guard, and 3 make up the Alabama Air National Guard. Each of these MSCs are composed of multiple subordinate units—battalions, groups, squadrons, companies, detachments, etc.—that fill specific niches within the overall MSC's unique collective mission.

As a joint operational force, our MSCs work closely together to share resources and training, enabling Guardsmen with diverse skillsets to cooperate in new ways and accomplish increasingly complex operations both at home and abroad.

All together, these 13 MSCs form the approximately 13,000 Soldiers and Airmen we call the Alabama National Guard.
