Command Sergeant Major John Robert Elmore Jr. assumed the title of State Command Sergeant Major of the Alabama Army National Guard on December 7th, 2024. He enlisted into the Alabama Army National Guard on February 10th, 1989, and completed initial entry training at Fort Jackson, SC.
Command Sergeant Major Elmore deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2007-2008 as the Operations NCOIC for the Theater Gateway in Ali Al Saleem, Kuwait. He is currently assigned as the G-3/5/7 Sergeant Major Joint Force Headquarters Alabama Army National Guard and is the Command Sergeant Major of the 200th Regional Training Institute (LDR).
He is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, First Sergeant Course, ANCOC, BNCOC, PLDC, ARNG Strategic Planning and Management Course, Defense Support of Civilian Authorities, ARNG NET CUSR Readiness Reporting, Antiterrorism Officer, Conventional Physical Security/Crime Prevention, Instrumentalist (42R), ARNG Training Officer/Operations NCO Course, FA Cannon Crewmember (13B), and Human Resources Specialist (42A).
He has a B.S. Degree in Human Resources Management from Faulkner University in Montgomery, AL.

CSM Elmore and his wife of 33 years Deana have 2 sons, Robby and spouse (Victoria), Seth and spouse (Victoria) one granddaughter Evelyn Jade (Evie J) and one grandson Theodore Dean. CSM Elmore and his family all reside in Troy, Alabama.
