117th Air Refueling Wing
This Major Command (MACOM), headquartered at Sumpter Smith Joint National Guard Base in Birmingham, is the world-class air mobility wing with a 24/7/365 mission to provide air refueling, airlift, intelligence, logistics, and medical services to local, state, national, and worldwide operations. Since 2019, the 117th remains the first and only Air National Guard unit to win U.S. Strategic Command's Omaha Trophy, showcasing the wing's dedication to excellence. Through its KC-135 Stratotanker crews, maintenance squadrons, a rapidly growing intelligence squadron, numerous support elements, and a culture of innovation and full-spectrum readiness, the 117th embodies the "Airpower Anytime, Anywhere" mentality, and keeps U.S. and allied forces in the skies and in the fight.
