A Federal Military Technician (dual status) is a Federal civilian employee who is employed under section 709 (b) of title 32. Technicians are required as a condition of that employment to maintain membership in the Alabama National Guard. Military Technicians are assigned to a civilian position as a technician in the administration and training of the National Guard or in the maintenance and repair of supplies or equipment issued to the National Guard or the armed forces. A Federal Employee; with the Alabama National Guard is a federal civilian employee with excepted status, depending on the position for which they are hired. Although Federal Employees work with and on location with the Alabama National Guard (Air and Army) they are not required to maintain military membership in the Alabama National Guard. Active Guard Reserve (AGR) soldiers serve full time and enjoy the same benefits and entitlements as active duty soldiers. With an AGR job, you can receive full pay, medical care for you and your immediate family, and the opportunity for retirement after 20 years of active service. Soldiers serving within the AGR program are stationed throughout the country at thousands of Army Reserve units in local communities and worldwide in positions that directly support the Alabama National Guard. Assignments outside the Alabama National Guard footprint. Service members who meet the criteria are highly encouraged to submit for these assignments. These will challenge and expand the skillsets of Guardsmen selected, setting them apart from their peers, and advancing the mission of the National Guard and Department of Defense across the globe.
