Step 1: Review Your Records

Step 2: Choose a Field of Study and School

Choosing a field of study and school can be challenging. Use these free resources to help guide your decision.

Step 3: Explore Financial Resources

The Education Services team will walk you through your financial resource options, including Federal Tuition Assistance and other education benefits.

Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA)

The Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a Soldier's professional and personal self-development goals. Tuition Assistance is available for classroom and distance learning courses that are part of an approved academic degree or certificate program.

These courses must be offered by schools that are registered in ArmyIgnitED, accredited by agencies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, and signatories to the current Department of Defense Memorandum of Understanding.

  • FTA pays up to $250 per credit hour, up to 18 hours or $4,500 per fiscal year.
  • FTA is based on the availability of funds and cannot be guaranteed to all Soldiers.
  • Soldiers may use FTA to earn one credential from each of the following levels:
    • Certificate (technical and licensure)
    • Associate degree
    • Bachelor’s degree (130 semester hours maximum)
    • Master’s degree (39 semester hours maximum)

Note: Undergraduate certificate program hours used count toward maximum usage limits.
